Pam Crawford

Voice Faculty

Pamela Crawford taught vocal/choral/general music in Iowa public schools for 34 years, the final 21 years in Maquoketa IA.  She since has taught music appreciation/ humanities for NICC (Peosta) and EICC (Maquoketa campus). Pam also directs choirs at Westminster Presbyterian Church and is adjudicating choral, vocal, and piano entries for the Iowa High School Music Association festival contests and all-state chorus for the 36th year.  Mrs. Crawford holds a BS in Music Education from Iowa State University with major instruments in voice and (collaborative) piano. Her Masters of Music Education with a vocal performance emphasis is from Drake University.  Pam also was chosen by Northwestern University of Evanston IL to be a summer fellow in this program’s pilot year; ten music educators were chosen nation-wide. Mrs. Crawford also served for 10 years as the vocal music educator on the IHSMA executive board (elected by the superintendents of Iowa schools.)

Pamela Crawford earned a performance level master’s degree in voice under the teaching of Margaret Hauptmann, one of Robert Shaw’s solo sopranos in his European tours and recordings. Ms. Hauptman studied in the Garlinghouse (Cinncinati) studio (as did Marilyn Horne).  Ten years later, Mrs. Crawford studied at Northwestern University with Elizabeth Fisher, who also sang roles with the Chicago Lyric Opera. Pam has been a featured soloist with the Dubuque Symphony and Loras College and frequently for the convention choirs of the Iowa Choral Directors under directors including Robert Page and John Lehman. Her HS choirs have been invited to be the guest honor choir at Luther College, Iowa State University, Drake University, Clarke College, Iowa Music Conventions and as Iowa’s HS choir for the Washington DC Bi-centennial. Nearly 200 of Mrs. Crawford’s have been selected for OPUS, IA all-state, or Regional ACDA honor choirs. Over 700 soloists or vocal ensembles she has trained or coached have earned the Division I at state contest.

Mrs. Crawford also teaches piano lessons at NISOM.
