Personal Message from Tracey Rush, NISOM Executive Director

So much for which to be thankful this Fall!  As you may have heard, this past April I was diagnosed with kidney cancer. My left kidney was removed in June, and I spent the entire summer recuperating. As hard as it was to miss all the ChamberFest events and summer lessons, Assistant Director Becky Perkins temporarily took over as Acting Executive Director, and she and the rest of the outstanding staff at NISOM carried on beautifully in my absence. A huge thank you also goes to the many people who sent cards, prayers, and messages of support while husband and I dealt with all of this. I am very pleased to report that the cancer was contained in the one kidney, I did not need to have any further treatments, and I was able to resume my duties as Executive Director as of August 15. My three-month check-up was also big “thumbs up” from the doctor, so I am praising the Lord.

ChamberFest Dubuque

ChamberFest Dubuque 2017 was our most successful fundraiser ever! Together we raised nearly $18,000 for music education in our community. This year’s festival included the gala concert at Clarke University on June 15 and a free student workshop on June 14. NISOM extends our deepest thanks to Michael Gilbertson and our guest artists, the ChamberFest committee, all of our sponsors, and everyone who purchased tickets.

Acts of Kindness

When NISOM’s Executive Director Tracey Rush and her family moved from South Carolina, they drove over 700 miles with a two-year-old and arrived in a new city exhausted and hungry. Imagine their gratitude when they were gifted with a box of spaghetti, a jar of sauce, and a loaf of bread! It was a simple, planned act of kindness that did not cost very much, but it was just what they needed.

Today, we invite you to make your own planned act of kindness by becoming a member of NISOM’s Melody Club of monthly giving. For just a few dollars a month – about the cost of a box of spaghetti, a jar of sauce, and a loaf of bread – you can join us in teaching students to not only be better musicians, but to be better people. You help them learn hard work, perseverance, determination, and even kindness. You change lives through music. In fact, in a survey to our former students, 100% of respondents said NISOM and making music changed their lives! They expressed the same memorable gratitude that Tracey’s family felt all those years ago. When you support NISOM, you gift these students with much more than a meal. Please help us change more lives with your act of kindness today.

To join NISOM’s Melody Club, contact us at (563) 690-0151 with your pledge, download and submite the monthly giving form, or select the recurring monthly option with your online gift now. Make a random act of kindness by sending your one-time gift today to 2728 Asbury Rd, Ste 200, Dubuque IA, 52001 or donate online today.
