Off-Site After-School Youth Programs


In addition to on-site lessons and classes, NISOM brings music education to youth in our community through various off-site after-school programs.

A recent study at Northwestern University provides direct evidence that a community music program for at-risk youth has a biological effect on children’s developing nervous systems. Community Music Programs Enhance Brain Function in At-Risk Children

Prescott Piano Program: Spring 2017 

Piano Group Class for Grades 3-5

March 27-April 26
Register by March 24

Classes meet Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays, 3:30-4:30
All classes held at Prescott Elementary School Piano Lab

Learn to play the piano after school! This small-group piano class is open to any students in grades 3 through 5 and provides a safe and educational after-school activity. Classes are taught by Prescott music teacher Mrs. Patti Millius. Thanks to our sponsor Sue & Jim Lindsay, registration for the course is only $15 per student. Scholarship assistance is also available. No student will be turned away due to inability to pay! Advance registration with payment or scholarship application is required by March 24.

To Register: Complete a Prescott Piano Registration form and return with $15 payment to Mrs. Millius by March 24. For scholarship assistance, submit a scholarship application to NISOM or contact NISOM at (563) 690-0151 for more information. Class size is limited.

Students must be picked up promptly at 4:30 PM and are expected to commit to all classes. If a student has more than 2 unexcused absences, his or her space may be given to another student. Students who are ill or need to miss class for another reason should contact Mrs. Millius before the class.


MFC Guitar: Winter

Classes for Youth & Teens

Tuesdays, February 7-March 28, 2017
Youth (ages 8-12): 6:00-6:45pm
Teens (ages 13-17): 6:45-7:30pm
All classes held at MFC: 1157 Central Ave, Dubuque

Guitar clas se s with a Brazilian twist! NISOM and Dubuque's Multicultural Family Center are teaming up for beginner guitar classes, taught my NISOM instructor Marcus DeJesus, who is originally from Brazil. Youth will learn basics such as chords, scales, strumming patterns and songs with Brazilian influence. This 8-week program will lead up to a performance at the MFC1s "Taste of the World" event on Saturday, April 1.

No guitar? No problem! One will be provided for you to use during classes.
