Jump Start 2015

Jump Start 2015 has concluded. Check back for 2016 information.

Jump start your playing by attending a week of summer lessons!

Beginning instrumental students entering 5th or 6th grade band or orchestra in the fall can get a Jump Start on their playing in one of two week-long camps. Jump Start is a beginner instrument-immersion program, held in partnership with the Dubuque Community School District (DCSD), intended to prepare students with the fundamentals of playing an instrument. Classes are taught by DCSD teachers.

~ Learn basic position and technique. You can be playing simple songs before school starts!
~ Learn general music principles such as rhythm, note-reading, and musical symbols!
~ Get a "Jump Start" on those who start when the school year begins!
~ Have a great time making music this summer with your friends, and meet new ones!

About Instruments: NISOM does not provide instruments. Students should arrange to have the instruments they will use during the school year prior to their Jump Start classes. Families are encouraged but not required to join us at a Beginning Instrumental Music FAQ Night to learn how the  program works, register, meet the teacher, get instrument rental information, and get measured for your instruments. Drop in 6:00-7:15 PM on Tuesday, April 28 at Multicultural Family Center (1157 Central Ave) or Tuesday, May 5 at Emmaus Bible College (2570 Asbury Road). A brief “what to expect” talk from the teachers with Q&A will be held at 6:15 and 6:45 both evenings.
