Group Class Policies 2017-2018

The NISOM year consists of three school-year trimesters plus a summer session. Students enroll in group classes one session at a time. To register for any class, simply submit a registration form along with payment for the class fee listed in the class description. If you are seeking scholarship assitance, please submit your application in advance, so an award determination can be made; the balance of your fees less any scholarship award must be paid to reserve your space in a class.

Students currently enrolled in a class who wish to enroll in the next session do not need to fill out a new form but must register by submitting the class fee payment. It is not assumed students will continue in classes at the completion of the current session, so students must register each session to reserve space in a class.

Student who have registered for a class may withdraw with no penalty during the registration period, but no refunds will be given after the registration deadline or mid-session.

Attendance, Absences and Make-ups
Classes are held regardless of student non-attendance, so make-up classes are not available for student absences. In the event of instructor absence, NISOM reserves the right to provide a substitute teacher. Any classes canceled due to teacher absences or NISOM closings will be rescheduled during the next make-up week or at the end of the session.

Inclement Weather and Holiday Cancellations
NISOM does not automatically close when Dubuque schools are closed. When we close for inclement weather, announcements will be made via radio, email, Facebook, and Twitter. For our holiday schedule, please refer to our calendar or your class description.

Please call our office if in doubt.

Fundraisers and Recitals
Students enrolled in group classes are not required to participate in fundraisers or recitals but are welcome to do so for any held during the class session.

Conflict Resolution
If you are having a problem with your class or instructor, please discuss this with your teacher first. If you cannot resolve the issue directly with him or her, contact the executive director to discuss the matter in confidence. We will make it a priority to see that any problems are resolved in a timely matter.
