Bassoon Student Receives Full Scholarship

Congratulations to bassoonist Kate Muehring, the recipient of NISOM's fifth-annual Flint-Lindsay scholarship! Kate will receive a full scholarship for NISOM’s 2017-2018 school year of her bassoon instruction with Dennis Williams.

Kate Muehring started playing the bassoon in the spring of 2016. She played bassoon in the 2016 Loras Honor Band and the 2016 Northeast Iowa Bandmasters Association Honor Band. In the spring of 2017, she was one of only five bassoonists invited to play in the Iowa Bandmasters Association All Iowa 8th Grade Honor Band. Kate will also play in the 2017-2018 Dubuque Symphony Youth Orchestra, where she will be playing college level orchestra music. Additionally, she plays the flute and baritone saxophone that she has played in marching band and jazz band. She has performed at All that Jazz at the Town Clock Plaza, as a soloist at Plaython, other NISOM events, and her church. Kate continues her music education at NISOM and at Hempstead High School for the 2017-2018 school year.

NISOM’s Flint-Lindsay Scholarship Fund was established in 2012 by James and Susan Lindsay through an endowment gift of $25,000. In addition to the Flint-Lindsay fund, NISOM offers a need-based student scholarship program. For the 2017-2018 school year NISOM has awarded over $5,000 in total scholarship funding thus far.
