Guitar Student Awarded 1st Ryan Scholarship


NISOM is pleased to announce the first recipient of our new Leroy and Marion Ryan Scholarship is guitar student Lane Leopold. Lane will receive a full scholarship for our 2017-2018 school year of his instruction with Ray Guerra.

Lane Leopold is a student at Washington Middle School in Dubuque. Born in Monroe, Wisconsin, Lane moved to Dubuque with his father three years ago. He loves to read, listen to music, ride his bike, and dream up new inventions and video games. Lane began is musical training on viola in spring 2017 but switched to guitar not long after. He explains, "My heart says guitar. I've always enjoyed the sound of electric guitar. It's a dream to play one. I hope to own one someday. I am extremely happy I have this chance to continue to play music through this scholarship."

NISOM’s Ryan Scholarship was established in 2017 in memory of Leroy and Marion Ryan, parents of NISOM's Executive Director Tracey Rush. The scholarship is provided via an endowed fund to help make private lessons accessible to new students, part of NISOM's mission of making the life-changing benefits of music education accessible to all.
