Strategic Highlights

This year NISOM conducted a comprehensive review of our strategic plan. The process included community input, review of benchmarks and best practices, and revisions to our mission and vision statements. In March, the board unanimously approved a new plan, and we are excited for you to see what we have in store! Below are just a few highlights for the next two years.

  • Greater focus on outcome measurement
  • Greater transparency
  • More off-site programs and events
  • More faculty for piano & other most popular lessons
  • More summer opportunities
  • Updated logo
  • Improved online presence
  • Increased risk management

Free Dream Center Guitar Classes

We are excited to announce a new partnership with the Dream Center! Girls in grades 3-8 are learning guitar from NISOM instructor Ray Guerra.

The Dream Center says, "Providing a guitar class at the Dream Center has given an alternate activity to our female students, something the Center has been needing for awhile. These students are our gifted musicians, grades 3rd-8th, hungry to be challenged and learn a new instrument. The guitar class served 10 students, and each of them came into the class having no prior experience playing guitar. They have learned basic guitar skills and gone through a whole Level 1 guitar curriculum--being able to play songs and chords on the highest strings. This class has increased our student involvement from our middle school students and given them a place to explore a new skill."

These free classes are made possible thanks to generous support from Dubuque Downtown Kiwanis and Marilynne Field.

We have had another fun and educational season of introducing children to music at Lollipops & Music for Our Preschoolers!

The young audience has learned about jazz from Blu Flame, brass from Julien Chamber Winds, voice from The Mistletones, strings from the Dubuque Senior HS Orchestra, and more! Kids played along with Susan Cramer and danced to David Landau’s silly songs.

Don’t miss the last concert of the season! On April 14, come hear Sharon Anway and the unique Tincanrimba, a chromatic mallet instrument consisting entirely of tin cans played with chopsticks. All concerts are 10AM Saturday mornings at Carnegie-Stout Public Library. Thanks to our sponsors Dr. Mark Niemer and Dr. Yasyn Lee, L&MOP is free and open to all! All age are welcome.

L&MOP will be back in the fall with a whole new season of performers.
